At The John Moore Primary School, we believe that Design and Technology should provide children with a real-life context for learning. Our children will STRIVE and feel inspired in their Design and Technology lessons. Pupils will feel a sense of pride when given SPARKLING opportunities where they will gain knowledge which they can transfer to the wider world beyond the John Moore environment.
Through our Design and Technology curriculum, pupils should be inspired by and become knowledgeable about engineers, designers, chefs, sculptures, architects and others from a range of cultures, countries and backgrounds. This will enable pupils to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real-life purpose.
We aim to ensure pupils SOAR in Design and Technology by building curiosity and engagement within the topic, providing pupils with the opportunity to build upon their prior knowledge, skills and vocabulary and by becoming confident designers and creators. Throughout their time at the John Moore we hope that pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding regarding the importance of safety when preparing food and using tools.
Throughout this practical subject, using creativity, innovation and imagination, pupils will STRIVE to design, make and evaluate products they create. In doing so, they will encounter the opportunity to solve problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others' needs and wants giving them skills to apply to the real world. In turn, pupils develop skills in perseverance allowing them to overcome challenges and build upon independence. Furthermore, this strengthens skills to be independent and resilient life-long learners.
We want children to SPARKLE in Design and Technology and be proud of their successes and those of others. Pupils will SHARE their progress and finished products in a variety of ways throughout the school.
