Dan Pic.jpg

Current occupation:

I work at a Power Station in the Bristol area with the lofty job title of ‘Scheduling and Optimisation Controller’, which basically means that as part of a team I sell electricity to a counterparty and ensure the power station can supply what we have sold.

What I enjoy about being a Governor at The John Moore Primary School:

The most enjoyment and satisfaction I get is being able to see at first hand the amazing work the staff of the school carry out every day of the week. I am constantly impressed with the commitment, energy and level of skill they all have. I am truly humbled to be a part of the continuing development of the school and am thankful my two children benefit from this.

Skills I bring to the Governing Body:

I am an engineer at heart and have been involved with the latest expansion of the school, asking awkward questions of the contractors where required. In my previous workplace role, I had been involved with Health & Safety and such I bring a wealth of knowledge across a broad spectrum of areas within that realm. I have also been part of the team at Little Foxes in the past, and hence I am currently the link Governor for Early Years (EYFS).

Three things I like to do in my spare time:

  • I love spending time with my family, normally for long walks in the countryside, Croome Park and Westonbirt Arboretum are favourite locations

  • I also love Formula 1, so don’t call me on a Sunday afternoon around 1 o’clock.

  • I quite like tinkering in the garage and building stuff, my latest project is a Gin Bar for the garden…..

Class Teacher at The John Moore Primary School

What I enjoy about being a Governor at The John Moore Primary School:

I find as a Middle Manager, being staff governor, gives you an invaluable insight into how a school is managed.  As a class teacher, you wouldn’t normally have this opportunity. I love being part of a Governing body in a school that is ever-changing, takes risks and is moving forward with an extremely high level of commitment from its staff.

I have 27 years of teaching experience, the last 15 of those in leadership roles. I have taught across the Primary range and have led a number of subjects. I was previously a Governor for 8 years and know that being able to provide a supportive, experienced voice for staff,  as well as advise Governors on areas they may not be so knowledgeable on is hopefully an asset!
